Equipment

Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup green gram (moong dal)
  • 1 inch piece of ginger
  • 2 green chilies
  • 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
  • Salt to taste
  • 1/4 cup chopped onions (optional)
  • 1/4 cup chopped coriander leaves
  • Oil (for cooking)

Instructions
 

Prepare the Batter:

  • Rinse and soak the green gram in water for 4-5 hours.
  • Drain the water and blend the soaked dal with ginger, green chilies, cumin, and salt to form a smooth batter.

Heat the Pan:

  • Heat a non-stick pan or tawa on medium heat and grease it lightly with oil.

Make the Pesarattu:

  • Pour a ladleful of batter onto the hot pan and spread it thin, like a dosa.
  • Sprinkle chopped onions and coriander leaves on top.

Cook the Pesarattu:

  • Drizzle a little oil around the edges and cook for 2-3 minutes until crisp.
  • Flip and cook the other side for 1-2 minutes.

Serve Hot:

  • Serve the Pesarattu with ginger chutney or coconut chutney.

Notes

  • Variation: Add chopped green chilies or grated carrots to the batter for extra flavor.
  • Storage: Store leftover batter in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.
  • Serving Tip: Pesarattu pairs well with ginger chutney or upma.
