Equipment

  • Steamer for sticky rice
  • Medium saucepan
  • Mixing bowls
  • Measuring cups and spoons

Ingredients

  • 1 cup glutinous rice
  • 1 1/2 cups coconut milk
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 2 ripe mangoes peeled and sliced
  • 1 tbsp sesame seeds optional, for garnish

Instructions

  • 1. Cook the Sticky Rice: Rinse the sticky rice until the water runs clear. Soak the rice for at least 1 hour (or overnight for the best results). Drain and steam the rice in a steamer for 15-20 minutes, until fully cooked.
    2. Make the Coconut Sauce: In a medium saucepan, combine the coconut milk, sugar, and salt. Heat on low, stirring until the sugar dissolves. Remove from heat and set aside.
    3. Mix the Rice with Coconut Sauce: Once the rice is cooked, transfer it to a mixing bowl. Pour 1 cup of the coconut sauce over the rice and gently stir to combine. Cover and let the rice sit for 10 minutes to absorb the coconut milk.
    4. Serve: Divide the sticky rice into portions and top each serving with mango slices. Drizzle the remaining coconut sauce over the rice and garnish with sesame seeds if desired.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, toast the sesame seeds before sprinkling them on the rice.
  • Make sure to use ripe, sweet mangoes for the best taste.
  • If you prefer a sweeter sauce, add more sugar to the coconut milk mixture.
