Oven
- 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1 tsp instant yeast
- ½ cup warm water
- ½ cup milk
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella or feta (or sulguni cheese)
- 1 egg (for Adjarian version)
- 2 tbsp butter (optional, for serving)
In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, salt, sugar, and instant yeast.
Add warm water, milk, and olive oil, mixing until a soft dough forms.
Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
Place the dough in an oiled bowl, cover, and let it rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
Preheat the oven to 220°C (425°F).
Divide the dough into 4 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a flat oval shape.
Place the cheese mixture in the center, leaving edges uncovered. Fold the sides inward to create a "boat" shape.
Bake for 15-20 minutes until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is melted.
(Optional) Crack an egg in the center of each boat and bake for an additional 5 minutes.
Serve with melted butter and enjoy!
- You can substitute sulguni cheese with a mix of feta and mozzarella if unavailable.
- For a crispier crust, bake a few minutes longer.
