Ingredients
  

For the Dough:

  • 1 cup wheat flour
  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • Salt to taste
  • Water, as needed

For the Filling:

  • 1/2 cup grated coconut
  • 1/2 cup roasted peanuts, crushed
  • 2 teaspoons red chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon tamarind paste
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1/2 teaspoon coriander powder
  • Salt to taste
  • A pinch of sugar (optional)

Instructions
 

  • Prepare the Dough:
    In a bowl, mix the wheat flour, oil, and salt.
    Gradually add water and knead into a soft, pliable dough. Cover and set aside.
  • Prepare the Filling:
    In a frying pan, dry roast the grated coconut and peanuts until golden.
    Add red chili powder, cumin seeds, coriander powder, tamarind paste, salt, and a pinch of sugar if desired. Mix well.
  • Assemble the Masswadi:
    Roll out small portions of the dough into thin discs.
    Place a spoonful of the filling on each disc and roll it up tightly.
    Secure the edges with water to prevent unrolling.
  • Steam the Masswadi:
    Place the rolls in a steamer and steam for about 15–20 minutes until cooked.
    Remove from the steamer and slice each roll into bite-sized pieces.
  • Serve:
    Serve Masswadi hot with a side of coconut chutney or spicy curry for a traditional experience.

Notes

  • For extra spice, add green chilies or more red chili powder to the filling.
  • You can prepare Masswadi ahead and store it in the fridge for up to 2 days. Steam before serving.
