Equipment

  • Small saucepan
  • Whisk

Ingredients

  • 2 cups of milk (dairy or non-dairy alternative like almond or coconut milk)
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder (or 1-inch fresh turmeric root, grated)
  • ½ teaspoon ground ginger (or 1-inch fresh ginger, grated)
  • ¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • Pinch of black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon honey or maple syrup (optional, for sweetness)

Instructions

  • In a small saucepan, combine the milk, turmeric, ginger, cinnamon, and black pepper.
  • Heat the mixture over medium heat, whisking frequently to prevent lumps.
  • Once the milk begins to simmer, reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for 5 minutes to allow the flavors to infuse.
  • Remove the saucepan from heat and strain the milk into cups using a fine mesh strainer.
  • Stir in honey or maple syrup to sweeten if desired.
  • Serve warm, and sprinkle a pinch of cinnamon or ground cardamom on top for an aromatic finish.

Notes

  • For a vegan option, use non-dairy milk and maple syrup.
  • Adjust the spices to suit your taste.
  • Fresh turmeric and ginger can enhance the flavor significantly.
