Ingredients
  

  • 2 cups cooked chickpeas (or 1 can of chickpeas)
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 onion (finely chopped)
  • 1 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
  • 2 tomatoes (pureed)
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp red chili powder
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1/2 tsp garam masala
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tsp kasuri methi (dried fenugreek leaves)
  • Fresh cilantro leaves for garnish

Instructions
 

Prepare the Base Masala:

  • Heat oil in a large pot over medium heat.
  • Add cumin seeds and let them splutter.
  • Add the chopped onion and sauté until golden brown.
  • Add ginger-garlic paste and cook for 2 minutes until fragrant.

Add Tomatoes and Spices:

  • Add the pureed tomatoes, turmeric powder, red chili powder, coriander powder, and salt.
  • Cook until the oil separates from the masala, and the mixture becomes thick.

Add Chickpeas:

  • Add the cooked chickpeas to the pot and mix well.
  • Add ground cumin and let the chickpeas simmer in the masala for 10-15 minutes.
  • Add garam masala and kasuri methi, and mix well.

Serve:

  • Garnish with fresh cilantro leaves and serve hot with roti, naan, or steamed rice.

Notes

  • Variation: You can add cubed potatoes to the dish for added texture and flavor.
  • Storage: Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.
  • Serving Tip: Serve Chana Masala with a side of sliced onions and lemon wedges for an added burst of freshness.
