- 1 cup (125) all-purpose flour
- 1 cup (240ml) water
- 2 tbsp sugar
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract (optional)
- Vegetable oil for frying
- 1/2 cup (100g) sugar, for coating
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
In a saucepan, combine water, butter, sugar, and salt. Bring to a boil.
Remove from heat and add the flour all at once. Stir vigorously until the dough forms a smooth ball.
Let the dough cool for a few minutes, then transfer it to a piping bag with a star tip.
Heat the oil to 375°F (190°C). Carefully pipe 6-inch strips of dough into the hot oil, cutting with scissors if needed.
Fry the churros in batches until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side.
Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
Mix the sugar and cinnamon in a bowl. Roll the warm churros in the cinnamon sugar mixture.
Serve immediately, with or without chocolate sauce.
- If you prefer, you can make a simple chocolate dipping sauce by melting 1/2 cup of dark chocolate with 1/4 cup heavy cream.
- Churros taste best fresh, but you can store leftovers in an airtight container and reheat in the oven.
