Equipment

  • Steamer
  • Rolling Pin
  • Mixing bowl
  • Spoon

Ingredients

Dough:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp instant yeast
  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1/4 tsp salt

Filling (Pork Example):

  • 200 g ground pork
  • 1/4 cup chopped scallions
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1 clove garlic minced
  • 1 tsp ginger minced
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  • Prepare the Dough: In a mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, and salt. Dissolve the yeast in warm water and add to the dry ingredients. Knead until smooth, cover, and let rise for 1 hour.
  • Make the Filling: In another bowl, mix the ground pork with soy sauce, sesame oil, garlic, ginger, scallions, salt, and pepper.
  • Shape the Baozi: After the dough has risen, divide it into six pieces. Roll each piece into a ball, then flatten into a circle. Place 1-2 tablespoons of filling in the center and pinch the edges to seal.
  • Steam the Baozi: Place the baozi in a steamer lined with parchment paper, leaving space between them. Steam over boiling water for 15 minutes.
  • Serve and Enjoy: Let the baozi cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • Experiment with fillings such as mushrooms, tofu, or chicken for variety.
  • Letting the dough rise properly will make the baozi soft and airy.
